It was the end of WWII, and the world was recovering from the greatest loss of life it had ever seen. The East, or rather, The Soviet Union, proved to the rest of the world that Communism was a strong system: a system that had the ability to produce more tanks, airplanes, guns, and soldiers that any other country on earth. The Soviet Union, Communism, proved that it was a system that people would fight and die for--more than 11 million Soviet soldiers died in WWII alone. The Soviet Union proved that Communism had the ability to spread and maintain control over countries that operated under a Capitalist system. That is what scared Americans the most: the potential loss of their treasured Capitalistic, Democratic society.
